Francois Louis Level Expander for Ultimate & Pure Brass Ligatures
Owners of special, thinner, custom made mouthpieces may find it difficult to bring the pressure plate into perfect contact with the reed. To solve this, one should fit a Level Expander into the Ultimate or Pure Brass Ligature.
If you are tightening the ligature all the way and finding that the plate still doesn't hold the reed securely in place, this could be the solution!
Please be aware: All Francois Louis ligatures in the "Small" size come with a Level Expander included.

As well as being necessary for creating a proper fit on certain slimmer mouthpieces, I discovered through testing that the level expander is also useful when experimenting with the thicker pressure plate options such as the solid brass and rubber coated stainless steel. I found that the level expander had the unintended side-effect of ensuring that the plate had a more secure fit to the ligature, whereas before I had issues with the plate becoming loose and falling off. – Oren Gurney ([email protected])
