Yanagisawa AWO20 Alto Saxophone - Bronze

A wonderful instrument that will satisfy any player, with a spectacular solid bronze body

The upgraded replacement for the A992 series, this AWO20 bronze model is one of the World's finest alto saxophones.  It's extremely well-made has a clear full tone, and is an absolute joy to play.

Description

Yanagisawa saxes are made by a small family company in Japan that only makes professional quality saxes, and they do it very well. This degree of focus means they are of a quality that even their main competitors recognise as the best. Here at SAX our technicians love them as they play straight out of the box and they are by far the most reliable instruments we sell.

The Yanagisawa A992 developed a reputation over the past 30 years as one of the finest alto saxophones on the market. Its replacement, the AWO20 is even better! Over and above the less expensive AWO2 model, the AWO20 has double key arms, a fully ribbed construction, and an underslung octave mechanism. The bronze offers a richer, broader, more harmonically complex tone.

The AWO20 has an even stronger tonal core thanks to a re-engineered bore and tone holes, plus many upgraded features.

Review

At this point, Yanagisawa's reputation as one of the finest Saxophone manufacturers in the world is firmly established. The AWO20 certainly lives up to this as one of their best to date. Immediately, I could feel the benefits of some of the innovations they have made with this horn. The key action is very responsive, and the new design on the right pinky keys makes it particularly easy to glide across the low Eb and C. The Bronze body gives the saxophone a clear and warm tone, with a slight smoky edge to it that's especially noticeable when holding back dynamically. The ribbed construction adds slightly more mass to the sound when compared with the AWO2, something that certainly appeals to me. It's no shock that this is one of our most popular horns, offering something for all manner of players! Harry - SAX
